After selecting California Aeronautical University as a 2018 Top Hawk University, Textron Aviation Inc., the leading general aviation authority, will deliver a much anticipated new, custom branded Cessna Skyhawk 172 to the University on March 30, 2018.

California Aeronautical University (CAU), located on Meadows International Airport, was selected out of many aviation universities across the United States to become a Top Hawk University. The University’s selection was in large part due to CAU students who managed the application process, including a video application (link below).

The new aircraft will significantly impact the University’s efforts in promoting aviation right here in Kern County, as well as across the country. As the looming pilot shortage calls for more qualified pilots, the Top Hawk aircraft will help CAU education youth about aviation careers, support flight training, and university recruiting efforts.

“Here at California Aeronautical University, we’re honored to have been selected as a Top Hawk university,” said Matthew Johnston, California Aeronautical University President. “This is a huge milestone, especially for Kern County and for aviation in California. Being a Top Hawk university will amplify our efforts to promote aviation to the next generation of pilots and help address the growing need of employable aviators in the industry.”

The Top Hawk program is a partnership between Textron Aviation and top university aviation schools to provide students with access to the world’s most popular trainer, the Cessna® Skyhawk®, and provide unique internship opportunities with the world’s leading general aviation manufacturer.
