DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT TUITION REDUCTION PROGRAM

TUITION REDUCTION AWARD FOR ONE HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR

In an effort to help the next generation start successful careers as aviation professionals, California Aeronautical University is proud to offer the Dreams Take Flight Tuition Reduction Program. Awarded to ONE current high school senior based on personal goals, academic interest and merit, the award can cover tuition and fees associated with the University’s Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics degree, including minimum flight hour requirements. The Dreams Take Flight Tuition Reduction Program provides an award up to $151,650.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be a US citizen or US permanent resident
  • Must have Parent or guardian approval if under 18 years of age
  • Must attend California Aeronautical University
  • Must be enrolled in the Bachelors of Science in Aeronautics program of study
  • Must live on campus for the three-year duration for Bachelors of Aeronautics program
  • Must be a current high school senior
  • Must meet all admissions requirement described in University’s Catalog prior to starting
    • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
    • Pass Drug Screen
    • Obtain a Class Three FAA Medical Certificate
    • Must obtain TSA approval
    • Must pass entrance assessment  (either CAU Entrance Assessment or SAT) 
      • CAU Entrance Assessment:
        • Minimum score of 510 Math
        • Minimum score of 480 English
      • SAT Assessment:
        • Minimum score of 510 Math
        • Minimum score of 480 English

Submission Requirements:

  • A current High School Transcript. Applicant must have a minimum 2.5 Cumulative Grade Point
    Average (CGPA) at the time of application.
  • Two letters of recommendation from an educator (school administrator, teacher or guidance
    counselor who is not a relative)
  • A 250-500-word essay or 2-3-minute video which includes a personal statement describing the following:
    • Aviation and career goals
    • Accomplishments
    • Why are you pursuing a career in aviation?
    • Why are you deserving of the award?

Application deadline is March 31st 2019
Final award will be determined by May 31st 2019
The recipient will be notified by June 10th, 2019

The tuition reduction award is applicable to CAU tuition and flight fees only for the duration of the three-year Bachelors of Aeronautics Program. Flight fees are capped using the FAA minimum flight hour requirement for Private Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, and Commercial Single Engine Rating. Flight fees are capped for Certificated Flight Instructor at 12 flight hours, Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument at 12 flight hours and the multi-engine at 12 hours each to meet the necessary preparations to prepare for the appropriate FAA examination. Any additional flight fees incurred, including FAA examinations, are at the recipient's expense. If flight fees incurred are less than what is described, the University will not return the difference to the recipient.

The recipient of the award will be required to live on campus and have responsibility for all related student housing costs for the duration of their program through graduation. Any courses not completed and/or are required to be retaken due to a failing grade will be at the expense of the recipient.

In order to maintain award eligibility for the duration of the program through graduation the recipient:

- Must maintain a 2.5 GPA throughout the program and is allotted one probationary term if their GPA falls below the required minimum of 2.5,
- Must maintain enrollment status as a full time student,
- Must maintain a current student account balance,
- Must comply at all times with university policies, procedures, rules or other defined guidelines set forth in the catalog or other student manuals.

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed and applicants are only eligible to receive one California Aeronautical University tuition reduction award. Any applications received after the designated deadline date will not be considered. No exceptions. Award selections shall be made without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, sexual preference, or disability.

A committee of aviation professionals will review submitted tuition reduction applications. Applications will be rated on the criteria above as well as the committee’s evaluation of the applicant’s aviation aptitude, desire, and overall demonstrated characteristics of success. Applicants are encouraged to start the admissions process as soon as possible.

CAU and/or the tuition reduction award committee has the right to refuse, reassign, and/or retract any application or award during the judging, awarding or post-awarding process. Refusal/retraction can be based on, but not limited to: false misleading and/or incorrect information provided in the application, statements made during the interview that contradicts application and/or failure to meet any criteria or eligibility requirements.

Should the award recipient not be able to fulfill his/her obligation at any time for which the award was intended, CAU shall provide written notice of termination and not be obligated to any further financial responsibility as awarded. In addition any outstanding financial obligations the student may have incurred while attending CAU must be immediately upon notice paid in full.
