California Aeronautical University launched the Oxnard Flight Training Center in Ventura County, California to provide the opportunity for Ventura County residents to become professional pilots. With the University’s aviation degree programs offered online and flight instruction provided at Oxnard Airport, students can conveniently study online and fly locally.

Located on the south end of the Central Coast, Ventura County provides a unique environment to live and learn how to fly. The Channel Islands National Park, agricultural fields, sandy beaches and majestic mountain ranges provide a beautiful backdrop when soaring the skies. Additionally, as Ventura County’s largest city, Oxnard provides a prime location to get started in the aviation industry.

Oxnard Airport has a low volume of traffic, which reduces wait times and provides more instruction per flight training, operates in a radar-controlled environment and is close enough to nearby airports to provide a variety of in-flight scenarios.

Fixed-Wing Flight Training

California Aeronautical University has been training future pilots through its fixed-wing aviation degree program in Ventura County for almost ten years. Designed for those who want to fly professionally, the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics degree program offers a year-round, fast-paced schedule that enables students to enter the pipeline for aviation careers in a shorter amount of time.

Students can graduate from this fixed-wing program in about three years. Along with the college degree, students also earn six required FAA certifications, can benefit from a flight-hour reduction when seeking their ATP certificate, and can take advantage of CAU’s airline partnerships, many of which include a direct pathway to airline cadet programs.

Flight Training at Oxnard Airport

Located at Oxnard Airport, CAU Ventura County offers a quieter, more efficient training environment designed to keep students flying—not waiting.

With minimal congestion, quick turnarounds, and CAU’s close proximity to the runway, students spend less time taxiing and holding and more time in the air learning. The result is a smoother training experience that maximizes every lesson.

Just outside the traffic and complexity of the Los Angeles basin—and a short drive from Santa Barbara—our location is ideal for students who want access to Southern California while training in a calmer, more focused aviation environment.
