California Aeronautical University (CAU) today announced its collaboration with Boeing to deploy the Boeing Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) Learning Library, making CAU the first U.S. flight school to implement the library for pilot cadets.
The Boeing CBTA Learning Library provides aviation students with access to learning resources designed to strengthen key pilot competencies, including decision-making, communication, leadership and teamwork, situational awareness, workload management, and threat and error management.
Learning to fly is only one part of becoming a commercial pilot. Pilots must also learn how to make sound decisions, communicate effectively, manage distractions, work as part of a team, and maintain awareness in dynamic environments. Through its collaboration with Boeing and deployment of the CBTA Learning Library, California Aeronautical University is providing students with additional resources to help develop these skills, supporting their growth into safe, confident, and capable pilots.
Competency-Based Training and Assessment focuses on developing the knowledge, skills, and attitudes pilots use in both routine and unexpected situations. Rather than focusing solely on task completion, the framework emphasizes the observable behaviors that contribute to safe and effective flight operations.

The CBTA Learning Library aligns with CAU’s ongoing commitment to investing in educational tools and resources that enhance student learning and support professional development.
