Included in Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics program. The certificate prepares students to add the CFI Rating-Advanced/Instrument to their Commercial Certificate.

Students acquire additional in-depth knowledge of IFR procedures, maneuvers and instrument approaches which are the foundation of this stage of instruction. At the completion of this FAA-approved training, students will have earn their certified flight instructor instrument requirement and completed the entire CAU Aviation Program offering. These ratings and certificates are earned through either the Bachelor's or Associate's program.

Students in the Bachelor of Science in Aeronautics program can become a Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII) within their third academic year.

Ground + Flight Training

In a combination of classroom and flight instruction, students are prepared to become a CFII.

Adding the Advanced/Instrument certification to your instructor wheelhouse enables you to share your love of flying with others as you assist them in learning to navigate more-complicated aerial landscapes. A Certified Flight Instructor Instrument, or CFII, is a highly-valued commodity in the aviation world.

CFII’s can expect to gain employment as line or charter pilots, first officers, captains, check airmen, or as flight operation directors. Organizational opportunities include airlines, flight schools, agricultural industries, charter and tour businesses, governmental agencies, private companies, and cargo carriers.

Those gaining the Certified Flight Instructor Instrument certification must have previously obtained their basic CFI certification. There are two national organizations – the National Association of Flight Instructors and the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators – which are available to support you in your career as a professional flight instructor.
