CAU Student Elected as NIFA Council Student Representative

California Aeronautical University is proud to announce University student and Flight Team member Jacaree Louis was recently elected as this year’s National Intercollegiate Flying Association (NIFA) Council Student Representative.

Elected by his peers at 26 colleges and universities across the nation who participate in NIFA events, Louis will serve as the crucial liaison between flight teams and the NIFA Council over the next two years.

As a non-profit organization intent on promoting and fostering safety and excellence in collegiate aviation, NIFA advances aviation education through its annual Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) competition, which builds on a legacy originating in post-World War I when army and navy aviator veterans brought their military training to their collegiate education to expand civilian aviation.

The NIFA Council administers the competition, including developing event rules and ensuring the long-term success of its overall mission. In his new role, Louis will have full voting powers on the Council and act as the voice of all collegiate aviators participating in NIFA competitions.

He’ll raise any concerns or suggestions in Council meetings regarding by-laws, event organization, exam certifications, and more. Louis will also travel the country promoting the intercollegiate organization.

“Being a Student Representative is an important role,” said Taylor Newman, Executive Director of NIFA. “The student rep holds an important role in balancing the needs of the student competitors and NIFA. We are honored by Jacaree not only representing California Aeronautical University but also all of his fellow competitors on other flight teams.”

Louis is the first NIFA Council Student Representative from California Aeronautical University.

“NIFA competitions provide an incredible opportunity for our aspiring aviators to put what they’ve learned in the classroom to use in a real-world setting,” said Matthew Johnston, CAU President. “We’re very proud of Jacaree’s new prestigious role and couldn’t be happier to have him represent us here at CAU and all of the other competitors around the country.”
