California Aeronautical University (CAU) is proud to announce it will host the U.S. Air Force’s AIM High Flight Academy for the second consecutive year this summer.
Organized by the Air Force Recruiting Service Detachment 1, the AIM HIGH Flight Academy (AHFA) is an esteemed aviation scholarship program for a three-week introductory flight academy.
In a collaboration between CAU and the Air Force, the mission of AHFA is to teach and inspire the next generation of aviators and leaders. Selected students, ages 16-23, will receive one-on-one flight training from CAU certified flight instructors aboard the University’s aircraft and log up to 15 hours of flight time.
In the classroom, students will gain insight into aviation safety, weather fundamentals, and other key concepts. Exciting field trips to a professional air traffic control tower as well as nearby airports provide real-world context, enriching the learning experience.
On top of the flying instruction and introduction to the various aviation career pathways, cadets will have the opportunity to be immersed in CAU’s vibrant university environment. They’ll stay in on-campus student housing, dine at the University café, and enjoy other amenities alongside CAU students at the 20-acre aviation campus located at Meadows Field Airport.
Cadets from last year’s academy at CAU expressed they enjoyed meeting new people from a variety of ages and backgrounds and building connections with CAU instructors and Air Force mentors. Visiting the local Air Force Base and taking flight for the first time was another highlight for many cadets.
“My favorite part [was] the very first take off on our very first flight lesson,” said AHFA 2023 cadet Daisy. “That was when everything culminated from ground school, you know the aerodynamics and the physics principles. It all just came alive at that moment, and it was just so euphoric.”
As an aviation scholarship program, the Air Force generously covers all program expenses, including flight training, accommodations, meals, and travel, which helps ensure accessibility to aspiring aviators from diverse backgrounds.
Prior experience isn’t a prerequisite for acceptance to AHFA, widening the horizons for individuals with a passion for aviation.
Collaborating with the Air Force has aligned perfectly with CAU’s commitment to introduce aviation to those who might be curious about flying.

California Aeronautical University will host 72 cadets over three three-week sessions from May to August 2024.
