California Aeronautical University (CAU) is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with the Kern High School District (KHSD). The University will join KHSD’s Regional Occupational Center (ROC) and Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) in the “Take Flight” collaboration, serving as the professional industry partner to provide students real-world exposure to aviation.
As one of ROC/CTEC’s career education programs, Take Flight is a three-week career-awareness program that provides students with the opportunity to develop professional behavior, with technical and workplace skills, for career and college success.
CAU will serve as the flight training provider of Take Flight, offering students the practical, hands-on application of the aviation lessons learned in the ROC/CTEC classroom at North High School. Students will fly two days a week aboard one of the University’s Cessna 172 aircraft and receive 10 hours of flight education, including 5 hours of flight lessons.
The program cost for students enrolled in this ROC program is covered in full by the KHSD ROC/CTEC, including flight training and uniforms.
No prior flying experience is required for acceptance into the program – opening a world of possibility for aspiring aviators of all backgrounds, especially for those who may never have considered an aviation career.
Offered to eligible juniors and seniors within KHSD, students in the program will learn flight fundamentals including aerodynamics, aviation safety, weather, and air traffic control procedures, and learn about the various career pathways available within aviation.
As a university founded to address the growing need for qualified aviation professionals, CAU continuously strives to promote aviation to the next generation. This partnership falls directly in line with the University’s focus to expose aviation to those who might be curious about flying.
“This is an incredible opportunity for students who are interested in the world of flight,” said Matthew Johnston, California Aeronautical University President. “There is no replacement for the thrill of applying all they have learned in the classroom in the aircraft. The collaboration the KHSD has created with CAU will provide lifetime memories for these students and is setting them up for their next chapter in education in aviation.”
“We are thrilled to offer every student in our Aviation program the opportunity to gain real flight experience,” said David Carter, Supervising Administrator at ROC. “We believe this will be a transformative experience, inspiring more students to pursue careers in aviation.” California Aeronautical University will host three separate three-week sessions from February to May 2025.
